CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Bond has been denied for a 25-year-old woman who was accused of crashing into a wedding party while under the influence of alcohol and killing the bride.
At a hearing on Tuesday, Jamie Lee Komoroski's motion for bond was denied because she is considered a flight risk.
“This is certainly a very tragic situation for all concerned,” Circuit Judge Michael Nettles said after delivering his decision.
However, if the trial is not anticipated for March 2024, Komoroski will receive $150,000 bond with conditions, such as house arrest.
Komoroski, appearing by video, frequently turned her eyes upward during a brief recess on Tuesday. She looked visibly shaken throughout the proceeding.
“She didn't just kill my child," Lisa Miller, the bride's mother, said tearfully in court. "She killed all of us.”
The evening of April 28, Komoroski collided with a low-speed vehicle (LSV) in Folly Beach, South Carolina.
The collision killed new bride, Samantha Miller, who had married Aric Hutchinson the same evening, and severely injured Hutchinson and another LSV occupant.
Police determined Komoroski was driving 65 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone and her blood alcohol level was three times over the legal limit.
Komoroski is charged with three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death and one count of reckless homicide. She was denied bond and has been held in custody at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center since April 28.
Attorneys Christopher J. Gramiccioni and Nathan S. Williams, who are representing Komoroski, filed a motion for bond with the Court of General Sessions for the Ninth Judicial Circuit on May 19.
